We are extremely fortunate to have supportive, helpful and friendly parent/carers who recognise that educating children is a process involving close partnership with home.
The purpose of our Code of Conduct is to provide a reminder to all parents/carers and visitors about the expected level of conduct at TKC. CURRICULUM – GROW PLAY EXPLORE
Our curriculum supports development through growth, exploration and play, within an environment where children feel valued and inspired. It instils self-confidence, independence, and resilience, while cultivating a strong sense of responsibility toward our community and the world. We support children to reach their potential, without limitations.
We encourage children to:
- grow in confidence, independence and resilience.
- be curious, ask questions and develop a deep understanding of the world around them.
- develop socially, creatively, and emotionally.
- develop their individuality, while celebrating the diversity of others around them.
The EYFS, Development Matters and Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL) form the foundational basis of the TKC Curriculum. TKC practitioners use effective pedagogy (a mixture of approaches) to achieve the learning objectives of our Curriculum – applying topics, children’s interests and specialist groups (staff hobbies) to enrich and diversify learning. Through developmental tracking our practitioners evaluate the stage of learning and understanding of each individual child, quickly identifying any gaps in learning.
A more detailed booklet summarising the intent (what), implementation (how) and impact (why) of the TKC Curriculum is available for our parents to review on the Parent Board. You can also have a Curriculum leaflet upon registration, just to make sure you understand how as a parent, you can be part of every step of your child’s learning journey with us.
EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS)
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is guidance provided by the Department of Education. The EYFS sets the standard for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years. It comprises a set of common principles, commitments and approaches to deliver quality early education and experiences for children.
There are seven areas of learning and development that shape educational programmes in Early Years. These seven areas comprise three Prime and four Specific areas. All areas of learning and development are important and are inter-connected and prompt children curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Creating early capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.
The three Prime areas are:
- Communication & language giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations. Mark making areas are accessible at all times.
- Physical development providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. We help the children understand the importance of physical activity and healthy living. Our curriculum focuses on personal care and how to make healthy choices in relation to food.
- PSED helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others to; form positive relationships and develop respect for others; develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.
TKC practitioners support childrens learning in the four specific areas. Quality teaching within the specific areas described below, supports learning in the above Prime areas.
The four Specific areas are:
- Literacy encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. The children have access to a wide range of reading materials (e.g books, poems) to spark their interest.
- Mathematics providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measures.
- Understanding the World guiding children to make sense of their physical world, their local and worldwide community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, nationalities, places, technology and the environment.
- Expressive Arts and Design enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. The children have lots of opportunities and encouragement to play. To share their thoughts, ideas and feelings with their friends. They will have the chance to engage in many new and exciting activities, ones that will spark their interest.
ETHOS
The TKC philosophy is that ALL children should have the opportunity to develop their full potential (whether academic, artistic, literacy or otherwise), within a safe environment. We are committed to providing this environment, and teaching children about the ethical, environmental and moral issues that impact our local community and the worldwide society.
Our commitment to each and every child in our care shows in many ways, TKC:
- provide a warm, friendly and home from home environment where each child is encouraged to reach their full potential through praise, sensitivity and mutual respect.
- desire to ensure that each child is given every opportunity to develop, we work in close partnership with our parents/carers.
- premises which are adapted to meet the needs of children at different ages.
- emphasis on healthy, balanced nutrition and physical exercise.
KEY PERSON
TKC operate the Key Person system. The Key Person approach means your child is being cared for by someone who knows all about their unique, likes, interests and needs. Your child’s Key Person will be the practitioner with whom they build a special and unique bond. This relationship will serve to provide your little one with a sense of security, which we hope gives you confidence that your child’s emotional and physical needs are being met.
You will get to know your child’s Key Person well through face-to-face chats at pick-ups and drops offs, Parent Chats throughout the year as well as messaging through our App. You are also more than likely to hear their name a lot at home, as your child starts chatting about all the fun they have been having at nursery!
MENU & NUTRITION
TKC menus are designed by a dietician to make sure children in our care receive a nutritionally balanced diet. Through a nutritionally interesting menu, we aim to teach the children that trying new food from around the world, is exciting. You can view a sample menu here and read more about how TKC approach healthy living on our Nutrition page.
TKC day nursery’s have consistently been awarded 5 stars by the Food Standards Agency. For more information check out our food rating on the Food Standards Agency website.
PARENT PARTNERSHIP
TKC use an amazing App to communicate with our parents and to maintain a learning journey, for each child. Access to these packages ensure that our parents are kept up to date and feel part of our day at TKC. Parents can also use Famly to send messages to their Key Person, make payment, book adhoc sessions and to check your personal details are correct.
TKC also use several other modes of communication including TKC News, posts on social media, TKC Blog, Parent Chats and Consultations. Please visit our TKC News section.
