Our exciting new topic, ‘Our Body and Life Cycles,’ is well underway, and the children are thoroughly enjoying a range of fun, hands-on learning experiences. This topic is always a favourite with both staff and children, as it perfectly aligns with the arrival of spring – giving us even more opportunities to take our learning outdoors.
Our Investigators have been busy tending to the kitchen garden, the Adventurers have been creating stunning spring-themed artwork, and the Explorers have been getting messy while using their senses to discover different body parts. A simple trip to the local park sparks endless curiosity – What does this flower smell like? Can you hear the wind rustling through the trees? Let’s lie on the grass and watch the clouds drift by!
This topic helps children develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. To extend their learning at home, why not try some of the activities we’ve shared in this post?
Themed activities to do at home
Squishy sensory bags These sensory bags are perfect for babies, and mess-free! Watch as they use their hands to explore different textures. Visit here to see how they are made.

Cress heads These silly cress-heads are easy to do at home and you only need a couple of things to get started. Your child will love checking in on their cress head every day to see if their hair has grown!…… Visit here to see how they are made.

Colourful nature walk Explore your local area looking for natural materials of different colours to create these beautiful collages. This is the perfect opportunity to develop your child’s senses as they use sight, sound, taste, touch and smell to learn more about the natural materials they’ve found. Why not collect some of the leaves, sticks and other items you have found, to add to your squishy sensory bags!!
BINGO…….. To switch up your nature walk, why not turn it into a game of Nature Bingo or Backyard Bingo – race to see who can fill their collage first with items of each colour.
